The Horse & Cart would have been Paul McCartney's local - except he never went to the pub, although he did send his kids to the local schools. I have even less promotional and advertising material I can find that I produced for this pub than for The Britannia Inn. So let me describe a little. We bought the pub from a man who was very ill with AIDS. He had lost half his customers and trade really needed building up again. We replaced the stone and gravel car park with a new tarmac coating, we built a new children's adventure play area in the beer garden and built a direct passageway from the kitchen to the restaurant so that the drinkers round the bar wouldn't be bothered by food passing by all the time. We also added central heating - an essential thing in my view that I was amazed the pub didn't have.
We then launched a big ad campaign in the local papers simply focussing on the fact we were new owners and were very family friendly. Within a few weeks we got so busy on Friday and Saturday nights we were turning diners away or they were having to wait for up to an hour. I'm very proud of our success there. In the end we sold all our pub/catering businesses to a large pub company - another project we had successfully completed.
Anyway here are a few pictures I was able to dig up. Oh, and that's my handwriting on the large menu board below. It may not be the neatest but rather than having a professionally made sign I felt it gave 'olde worlde' charm.
