Branze.com is an attempt to echo the speed, storage and efficiency of a large search engine such as Google. But it also brings into play a new concept wherby users get to re-rank the results returned. Working in a similar fashion to a wiki such as Wikipedia, it will rely on users to ensure the best sites rise to the top.
Branze is written in PHP and uses distributed MySQL for the database engine (although it may have to be changed to Oracle Berkeley whch can be up to 20 times faster at teh sacrifice of flexibility). Already there are over 4.2 million websites in the database. Like Amiance.com this should also be considered a prrof of concept that might make to to full release if it succeeds.
